Willie’s Place sells to TA
The Willie’s Place truck stop at Carl’s Corner, TX, has been sold to TravelCenters of America for $6.4 million, according to local media.
The auction took place on the Hill County Courthouse steps on March 1, the
Hillsboro Observer
reported.
The former owners of the truck stop branded after country music star Willie Nelson owed $6.24 million in loans and interest at the time of the sale.
Rumors circulated in January about a pending change of ownership, including a memo supposedly written to employees by Willie Nelson himself.
Carl Cornelius developed the 15-acre complex in Hillsborough County and incorporated it as Carl’s Corner. He and Nelson are longtime friends.
Nelson, Cornelius and Steve Gilcrease are partners in the biodiesel venture known as BioWillie. There’s still a BioWillie plant on the property. Local TV station KWTX reported in late January that the bio plant would remain operational on the property.
TravelCenters of America operates 165 locations in 39 states plus about 40 Petro Stopping Centers in 25 states.
