WardsAuto reports April Class 8 sales drop 18.9 percent from 2015
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — April heavy truck sales dropped 18.9 percent from the same month last year and 17 percent from the previous month, WardsAuto reported today. Year-to-date, sales through April fell 10.3 percent from the first four months of 2015.
Freightliner again led all manufacturers with 6,358 units sold, a 38.2 percent market share, according to WardsAuto. Kenworth was second with 2,538 sold for a 15.3 percent share, followed by Peterbilt with 2,332, 14.0 percent; International with 1,893, 11.4 percent; Volvo with 1,828, 11.0 percent; Mack with 1,194, 7.2 percent; and Western Star with 483, 2.9 percent.
Western Star was the only OEM to record an increase from April 2015, with sales up 28.5 percent. Year-over-year decreases ranged from Freightliner's 4.9 percent drop to Volvo's 32.6 percent decrease.
Volvo, however, led month-over-month with a 24.5 percent increase from March 2016. Western Star sales increased 1.7 percent from March and Peterbilt recorded a 0.2 percent rise. All other manufacturers decreased in sales from March to April, led by Mack's 37.7 percent drop.
Year-to-date, Western Star increased 16.7 percent, followed by Freightliner at 0.4 percent. All other OEMs recorded decreases in sales for the year, led by Volvo with 34.2 percent.
