The fourth and final scheduled public listening session on hours of service is Thursday, Jan. 28, in Davenport, IA. Truckers will have multiple opportunities to be heard. For starters, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced that the session will be streamed live on the Web.

The session is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Central Time on Thursday at the Comfort Inn and Suites, 8300 Northwest Blvd., Davenport, IA 52806. The location just off Interstate 80 is a short walk from a nearby Flying J with ample truck parking.

FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro is scheduled to make an appearance in person at the Davenport event.

Those who cannot make it to the session can view the webcast by logging on to www.fmcsa.dot.gov and following the prompts marked “hours of service.”

During the event, the public can call 866-216-6835 and enter the participant code “223256” to ask a question or make a comment about hours.

If you can’t get to the event, view the webcast or call with a comment, you can fax comments to 202-493-2251 or write to: Docket Management Facility, U.S. Department of Transportation, 1200 New Jersey Ave. SE, West Building Ground Floor, Room W12-140, Washington, DC 20590-0001. If you fax or write, be sure to specify the correct public docket ID, which is FMCSA-2004-19608.

The FMCSA is gathering information for possible changes to the HOS rules. The agency is interested in on-duty time, detention time, rest time, clock restarts and sleeper berth use.
