Trucker ‘spy’ now charged with attempted murder
In Tennessee, a man whose job it was to spy on truckers has been charged with attempting to kill one of the drivers he followed.
News sources report 44-year-old Joseph Volpe’s job was to videotape professional truckers out on the road and to document any unsafe driving in tapes that would be sold to the driver’s carrier.
Volpe is from Chickamauga, TN. The name of his company is Third Eye Highway Safety. According to the company’s website
, it’s not anti-trucker, but “anti-aggressive trucker.†Trucking companies can sign up to have Third Eye videotape its drivers.
In June, Volpe was following a truck on I-24 near Chattanooga when the truck driver apparently figured out what was going on and reportedly tried to run Volpe off the road. Volpe then allegedly grabbed a pistol and fired at the truck. The truck driver wasn’t hurt.
Police arrested Volpe and charged him with reckless endangerment and aggravated assault. On Dec. 10, a grand jury added an attempted murder charge. Volpe is scheduled to appear before a Hamilton County court on Feb. 17.
