WASHINGTON — Over the last two years, the TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant program has provided $2.1 billion for 126 projects that are creating jobs and investing in transportation networks nationwide.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has just announced that an additional $527 million is available for a third round of TIGER funding.  States, cities, and local governments are being invited to submit their applications for the third round of funding for Tiger3 grant monies.

During the two previous funding periods, DOT received more than 2,500 applications requesting more than $79 billion for transportation projects across the country.

Projects will be chosen based on their ability to:

Contribute to the long-term economic competitiveness of the nation, Upgrade the safety and quality of existing transportation infrastructure and facilities, Increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and Improve the quality of life in communities through better transportation choices and connections.
The TIGER program is already funding road, bridge, rail, transit, streetcar, port, pedestrian, and bicycle projects in all 50 states.
