U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is about to make a major policy announcement about distracted driving.

LaHood is scheduled to appear Tuesday, Jan. 26, at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, where he will be joined by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrator Anne Ferro and by members of the trucking industry and the safety advocacy community.

During a summit on distracted driving in 2009, LaHood said the Department of Transportation was working on a three-pronged rule change that would include a provision to make texting illegal for drivers of commercial vehicles.
