Truckers out on the road across the country should keep an eye on the calendar. Primary elections are scheduled in several states in the coming weeks.

Georgia will hold a primary election on July 20. Oklahoma voters will cast ballots a week later on July 27. The following week, on Aug. 3, Kansas, Michigan and Missouri will hold primaries, while Tennessee voters will head to the voting booth Aug. 5.

The following week, on Aug. 10, voters in Colorado, Connecticut and Minnesota can cast ballots. Later in the month, voters in Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, Washington and Wyoming can cast ballots. In September, nine more states will do the same.

Professional drivers who miss the deadline to register to vote in their home state primaries shouldn’t throw in the towel. There is still time to get registered for Election Day in November.

Truckers who are registered to vote should make the effort to cast their ballots. Although primary elections typically don’t receive the same attention as the fall election, they can be just as, if not more, important.

Races for various elected offices will be trimmed in the lead-up to November. A variety of other issues, and many that are of significance to the trucking industry, also will be on ballots.

To encourage truckers to get involved in the process, OOIDA is once again focused on providing truckers with information on how to register in all 50 states and on early voting and absentee ballots – where available.

Visit TruckVote.com for more information. Those truckers who do not have Web access – or those who have questions or need assistance – can call the OOIDA Membership Department at 800-444-5791, Ext. 4906.
