SPECIAL REPORT: HOS meeting confirmed for Davenport, IA
The opportunity for long-haul truckers to make comments on a developing federal rule on hours of service is expanding.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has confirmed that a fourth HOS listening session will take place Jan. 28 in Davenport, IA, within walking distance of a Flying J with ample truck parking.
This is good news for truckers that have expressed concerns that the original three listening sessions are scheduled to take place at major airport hotels in DC, Dallas and Los Angeles – not the most accessible areas to park a rig.
Nonetheless, the public is welcome at all four sessions. The FMCSA has also provided an access hotline that people can call during each session if they wish to make official comments by phone. The administration is also welcoming comments by mail, fax and through an online form.
Details on the Davenport session are as follows:
1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Central
Thursday, Jan. 28
Comfort Inn Hotel & Suites
8300 Northwest Blvd.
Davenport, IA 52806
FMCSA Spokeswoman Shashunga Clayton said it’s important to note that this meeting location is not far from the Flying J Travel Plaza at Interstate 80 Exit 292. This Flying J has 146 parking spaces according to the company site.
OOIDA Executive Vice President Todd Spencer said this additional meeting gives the working long-hauler a better chance to make an appearance in person.
“This is a far better location for working truckers that are simply passing through to comment,†Spencer said.
“It’s our hope that working truckers will share their perspectives with the agency on this issue.â€
OOIDA plans to have a presence at each of the sessions to share perspectives with truckers on hours of service.
