Truckers came through for the troops in a big way once again raising more than $58,000 for care packages for troops stationed in war zones overseas.

The sixth annual Truckers For Troops campaign results were announced by OOIDA on Friday. The campaign raised a total of $58,616 through a combination of donations and a 10 percent match of all membership dues received during the campaign.

Shell Rotella donated $5,000 to kick off the campaign and kicked in an additional $1,000 on behalf of its My Miles Matters program.

"We’d like to thank our members and supporters for their generosity in making Truckers for Troops such a great success and for thinking of those serving our country. It’s our great honor and pleasure to be able to move on to the next phase of the campaign, fulfilling and shipping the care packages,” said Norita Taylor, OOIDA media spokesperson.

The 2012 effort brings the total raised during the annual campaign to $352,061. In the previous five years, more than 2,240 care packages were sent out serving 26,748 active service men and women in combat zones overseas.

The items in the boxes range from practical items such as socks all the way to fun items such as water cannons. One of the favorite items, however, are cards and letters from children that are always included.

Taylor is still requesting more letters for the care packages that will be sent out through the course of 2013. The letters can be sent to:
