Jasmine and Lee Jordan were involved in a traffic wreck Wednesday, May 5, although it appears no one was seriously hurt.

Jasmine, who also goes by Jazzy, is running from California to New York to raise awareness of truckers who lack medical insurance and to raise money for the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund .

The Jordans were preparing to have Jazzy run on Highway 70 in Burlington, NC, at 6 p.m. Wednesday when their diesel pickup was rear-ended by a car going about 45 mph. The wreck occurred just as Jazzy was tying her shoes, and fortunately occurred before they stopped to let her out and begin the run.

Lee said he noticed the car coming up fast as Lee’s truck was coming to a stop, but figured the car would switch lanes. As he started to tell Jazzy to hold on, the car hit the truck, turning the car on its side.

“Before I could even get it out, she just smoked the back end of my truck. It twisted things up pretty bad. … Another 30 seconds or a minute, and she could have been outside running.”

Lee said he pulled the woman driving the other car out of her car, and said she wasn’t seriously hurt.

As Lee helped move items from the wreck scene, Jazzy went to the emergency room to be checked for injuries.

Jazzy complained of leg, neck and back pains, but X-rays at an emergency room didn’t show any broken bones Wednesday night.

As soon as Lee walked in to see her at the hospital, Jazzy told him the wreck wouldn’t stop her.

“I’m pissed off; this is not going to ruin my run. I will make it to New York City,” Lee said, recounting Jazzy’s words.

What likely is ruined is Lee’s pickup. Pictures from the wreck show the truck’s back end twisted up.

While Jazzy was being treated, the Guilford County Fire Department and the Greensboro Police Department worked to move the Jordan’s RV trailer to the next campsite.

Lee said the RV was “set up for us when we got here. They just went above and beyond for us last night. It was incredible.”

While the Jordans deal with insurance issues and eye another escort vehicle they can pull their camping trailer with, Lee said Jazzy will take a couple days off to be sure she’s healthy, and then they’ll probably continue on.

“You can break a truck in half, but you will never break this young lady’s spirit,” he said.
