WASHINGTON — The average on-highway price for a gallon of diesel dropped 1.3 cents for the week ending March 31, according to the Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy.

All regions of the country except the Gulf Coast recorded a decline topped by a 3.6 cents a gallon drop in the Central Atlantic states. The decline in the Gulf Coast states was only four tenths of a penny.

All regions of the country except the East Coast and California are reporting prices below $4 a gallon. Despite the increase in the Gulf Coast, that region of the country still has the lowest price at $3.804 a gallon.

The price this week is 1.8 cents a gallon lower than the corresponding week last year.
