Move over GPSNet, Make room for Sylectus!
This month, Michigan and Ontario based transportation management software company GPSNet Technologies announced a complete sales and marketing rebranding effort to better represent the quality and innovation that they're known to provide. The new name? Sylectus. “The SYLECTUS name is synonymous with forward-thinking and innovation and it will be the brand that drives the proven benefits of our Alliance software and continues to grow our vast network of several thousand members across North America,†said Stuart Sutton, President of the newly-named company.
Stuart Sutton and partner, Ed De Leon, created an unprecedented business model in 2001, an industry first, when they introduced their web-based Transportation Management Software (TMS) that would bring together competitors of all sizes to share excess loads and improve their collective fleet utilization. Additionally, the TMS allows the ability to broker loads between carriers and have the load information flow securely, seamlessly and efficiently between the two-partner carriers, completely online and in real time. In 2009, the system saw some of its members grow their businesses by 20% while the rest of the industry struggled to stay afloat.
While the name change represents a new era for Sylectus, don't think of it as a change that will signify a turn away from their past achievements--rather, the new name and brand is intended to usher in a strengthening of their already-innovative business model and products. "The SYLECTUS team remains committed to ongoing product advancement through the continuous development of Alliance products driven by the customer experience.†said De Leon.
The company unveiled the new branding campaign at their 7th Annual GPSNet Technologies Inc. User Group Conference, which was held at the Amelia Island Plantation at Amelia Island, Florida. The conference is an opportunity for the company's carrier partners to get together, network, and share their success stories. This year, though, brought the news of Sylectus's new name and rebranding, to the pleasant surprise of its clients and partners.
Of the reasoning behind the name change, Mr. Sutton says, "We were experiencing an identity crisis. When we first started the company 9 years ago, the GPS name was not 'household' and did not mean 'personal navigation device' like it does now. So 9 years ago it was a very catchy name because we interfaced with truck-tracking GPS devices and we were web based (hence the NET part of GPS Net). The identity problem has become such that when people see our company name of GPSNet, they tend to think we sell devices. It takes a long time to explain to potential customers that we provide a web-based transportation management system.
When we decided to rebrand, we looked for all sorts of transportation related names, but all the good ones were taken. So we decided to make a name. We started with the fact that we create great software systems …so we took the SY from systems. Then we also realized that the software was the result of the collective Intellect of our customers giving us great ideas. So we took the 'LECT' from collective Intellect. Then we wanted to incorporate the Alliance into the name which is really all of us--a group of common-minded carriers. Hence the 'US.' SY-LECT-US.
While the name change isn't public at the time of this writing, Mr. Sutton states that he has discussed it with several of his customers on a discrete basis and that they "love the new name."
GPSNet Technologies was formed in 2001 as a software development company specializing in internet-hosted productivity and management solutions that maximize operations and ensure exceptional customer service for transportation companies. GPSNet was the first company to develop web-based dispatch software for the trucking industry and to also introduce the innovative practice of moving and managing freight collectively and effortlessly through the integration and collaboration of large and small transportation companies.
SYLECTUS is the new name and branding created by GPSNet Technologies to facilitate the sales and marketing of their Alliance software products and unique, web-based, subscriber network as the company broadens its customer base across North America.
