A number of less-than-truckload carriers announced they are raising rates.

Following on the heels of a recent YRC announcement that it will raise general tariff rates by 5.9 percent, Arkansas Best Freight (ABF) announced this week that it would follow suit, reports the Journal of Commerce .

FedEx Freight and FedEx National LTL also announced this week they will implement 6.9 percent general rate increases effective Nov. 1.

However, Con-way Freight, one of the three largest LTL operators along with YRC and FedEx Freight, said it would not implement an "out-of-cycle" rate increase this fall because there is still overcapacity in the market.
