Landstar Names Rick Owens of Santa Fe, Texas as 2017 Safety Officer of the Year
Jacksonville, Fla. (April 17, 2018) – Landstar System, Inc. (NASDAQ:LSTR), a worldwide, asset-light provider of integrated transportation management solutions delivering safe, specialized transportation services, presented the 2017 Landstar Safety Officer of the Year Award to independent Landstar Agent Rick Owens during Landstar’s Annual Agent Convention in Boca Raton, Fla. this month.
Owens, (pictured here with Landstar President and CEO Jim Gattoni) president of Owens Leasing, Inc. based in Santa Fe, Texas, was selected from among the 12 Landstar Safety Officer (LSO) of the Month winners for 2017. The monthly winners represent agencies with very low accident and cargo loss frequency rates, and that continuously look for ways to improve safety.
“Landstar Safety Officers promote safe, secure and compliant driving and support customer safety initiatives,” said Mike Cobb, Landstar Transportation Logistics vice president of safety and compliance. “Owens is a prime example of a true leader in safety. He embraces Landstar’s safety-first culture by providing safe, damage-free transportation services.”
During a ceremony held April 7, 2018, Cobb presented the award to Owens. Owens’ agency was one of four agencies that sponsored Landstar’s annual safety meeting in Galveston, Texas. He also demonstrates a constant commitment to safety by regularly participating in Landstar’s network-wide monthly Safety Thursday Conference Calls, attending Landstar Safety Officer meetings, and following Landstar’s Complete and Accurate Dispatch procedures.
Landstar requires each of its 1,100 independent agents to name an individual responsible for the safety performance of their agency. The designated Landstar Safety Officer promotes safe, secure and complaint driving, and supports customer safety initiatives. Each month, Landstar names a LSO of the Month from which the Landstar Safety Officer of the Year is selected.
