Landstar, High School Team Up to Provide Tornado Relief Supplies
Landstar System is teaming up with Episcopal High School in its headquarters city of Jacksonville, Fla., in support of a relief drive for victims of the tornados that ripped through the South in April.
This relief drive is being spearheaded by two Episcopal High School graduates, Katie Griscom and Lizzie Danner, both of whom are currently students at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and witnessed the devastation first hand.
"I was able to personally see some of the destruction that the tornado caused, and it is absolutely heartbreaking. You may have seen pictures and stories on the news, but being amidst the wreckage and confusion was unlike anything I have ever experienced," said Griscom. "I watched people collect what was left of their belongings in a couple of trash bags and then have to walk away from the flattened remains of their homes. All I can say is that I am so very lucky and grateful to be here."
Episcopal High and Landstar employees offered their support by collecting relief supplies to aid those affected by the storm. Landstar Ranger, a subsidiary of Landstar System, Inc., is donating the use of one of its trailers along with the cost of the transportation services to deliver the relief supplies to Temporary Emergency Services in Alabama. The supplies were scheduled to leave Jacksonville last Friday.
Landstar Chairman, President and CEO Henry Gerkens expressed his appreciation for the determination of Griscom and Danner to assist those in need and the support of the Jacksonville community. "We're proud to be a part of this relief effort and even more pleased to be in a position to donate our services," said Gerkens.
