June Class 8 sales up 6 percent from May, down 27.7 percent from last year, WardsAuto reports
Every Class 8 heavy truck manufacturer posted a decrease in sales from June of last year, according to today's report by WardsAuto. This June's total of 18,354 represented a 27.7 percent decrease from the same month last year, but was up 6 percent from May's total of 17,312.
Freightliner led all OEMs with sales of 6,725, a drop of 28.4 percent from last year. Kenworth's total of 2,741 ranked second, a 26.7 percent drop from last year. Next was Volvo, with sales of 2,465, a 24.8 percent decrease. Peterbilt posted sales of 2,333, down 20.5 percent from last year. Next was Mack, with 2,055 sold for a 4.2 percent decrease, followed by International, with 1,552 sold for a decrease from last year of 53.5 percent. Last was Western Star's total of 453, a drop of 15.5 percent from June 2015.
Mack led with a month/month increase of 49.3 percent, followed by Volvo, 38.9 percent and Kenworth with 6.0 percent. Peterbilt dropped 0.6 from May, followed by Western Star, 2.2 percent down; Freightliner, 4.1 percent off last month and International, down 11 percent.
