It’s official: End of the road for C. Bean’s trucking operations

A little more than a week ago, several drivers for C. Bean Transport Inc. of Fort Smith, AR, received a Qualcomm message advising them to fuel up their trucks, deliver their loads, and make their way back to Arkansas. Drivers were also advised that the company was undergoing some “massive layoffs,” but was also “restructuring.”

On Wednesday, March 17, Richard Bell of Bell Receivers LLC, who is the court-appointed receiver for C. Bean, announced that those layoffs would be permanent for its trucking operations.

“Effective today, the company has ceased its over-the-road operations,” Bell said in a prepared statement.

Bell added, however, that the company will continue to operate its warehouse facility in Fort Smith, AR.

“We continue to work diligently for what is best for the employees and their families, the creditors and the investors,” Bell stated. “I understand how difficult this has been for everyone associated with the company, and we sincerely appreciate the cooperation and understanding that have been shown by everyone involved.”

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Web site, C. Bean had 226 power units and 208 drivers around the time of its closure.

Some former drivers told Land Line recently they knew this was the likely end after receiving a letter from C. Bean with their paychecks on Friday, March 12. That letter read that “C. Bean will permanently cease its operations except for concluding the receivership business in Fort Smith, AR, and Amity, AR.” At that time, Bell Receivers hadn’t issued a formal statement yet regarding the company’s future.

In Wednesday’s statement, Bell stated that he would be “issuing additional statements as needed” regarding C. Bean.
