It's a Doorbell Camera, for your Truck
Well, the holiday gift-giving season has come and passed but that doesn’t mean we can’t get a jump on the cool tech gifts aimed at truckers in the coming year!
Recently introduced and launched at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Garmin’s NEW Dash Cam Live brings added safety and security to the life of the over-the-road trucker. For all those times we’ve seen those funny front-door cam videos of people and their difficulty maneuvering a hinged door, just imagine the same technology being put to use in assisting drivers out on the road.
Safety Stays Connected
Garmin’s Dash Cam Live is an always-connected LTE dash cam that offers drivers access to a live exterior view of their vehicle. By purchasing an LTE subscription, drivers are able to use the Garmin Drive app on their smartphones to access an on-demand view of everything within sight of the Dash Cam Live that resides in their vehicle.
Drivers can also receive theft alerts, as well as other incident alerts, when their truck is parked and they’re away from the vehicle. The camera can record in high-definition 1440p video, with a 140-degree field of view, featuring Garmin Clarity HDR optics and providing a clear witness to any potential incident.Â
With Dash Cam Live, saved video clips are automatically stored for 24 hours in the online vault and can be accessed using the Garmin Drive smartphone app. The camera is always on, so it will automatically record and save videos of and incidents, tagging date, time, and location of the saved video with its built-in GPS. When users are ready to access or share their recorded videos, it’s the LTE connectivity that allows Dash Cam Live to do so. This way, users won’t have to be dependent on Wi-Fi connectivity in order to share a video clip.
Voice Controlled to Maintain Safety
Drivers are also able to control the camera with their voice. Using voice commands, drivers can save video, start and stop recording, and take still photos, all while keeping their hands on the wheel. Users will also benefit from in-vehicle alerts such as forward collision, lane departure, and speed camera notifications to help ensure safer driving and increase situational awareness.Â
Dash Cam Live is also built to withstand harsh vehicle environments, including direct sunlight and hot interior temperatures. It’s also ready to be put to use right out of the box and comes with a microSD memory card, so drivers can mount their camera and put it right to work.
Of course, in order for drivers to use all of the connected features of this LTE dash cam, they will have to purchase a monthly Vault subscription plan in the Garmin Drive app. These plans will enable 24/7 connected features, including live view, location tracking, theft alerts, and parking guard notifications as well as the ability to extend the storage duration of video clips for up to 30 days.
For those drivers out there curious as to how this Dash Cam will be invading on their privacy, rest assured that the camera lens is pointed outward and not into the cab 😉. This is specifically designed to enhance safety and myriad situational awareness; it really is a doorbell cam for your truck.
