Construction of an additional 110 truck parking spaces is underway at the Iowa 80 Truckstop in Walcott, IA.

Heather DeBaillie, marketing manager at the Iowa 80 Truckstop, told Land Line on Tuesday, Sept. 18, that the cost for the concrete work is just over $1 million. She said the new lot is expected to open in spring 2013.

DeBaillie added that around 3,000 professional truck drivers pass through their truck stop in Walcott each day.

Known as the “World’s Largest Truck Stop,” the site will have more than 900 spaces once work is completed.

“We want to make sure that our customers have plenty of safe, well-lit truck parking spaces,” said Delia Moon Meier, the company’s senior vice president, said in a press release. “It’s important they know we will always have a space for them.”

The new parking spaces will be located near the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum and the Iowa 80 Group/CAT Scale Headquarters office, according to the release.
