Indiana community passes truck parking ban

As the truck parking problem continues to worsen for many drivers, many cities around the country are continuing to pass ordinances banning truck drivers from parking in those communities.

Recently, the Moores Hill, IN, town council passed an ordinance banning trucks and trailers weighing more than 16,000 pounds from parking long-term within city limits. According to the Dearborn County, IN, website, Moores Hill is a community of about 600 people.

The Dearborn County Register reported that the ordinance “prohibits parking such heavy vehicles or any vehicle ‘taller, wider and longer than a conventional passenger’ car or pickup truck on any street or alley within the town except for deliveries or picking up merchandise or supplies.”

As of press time on Monday, calls to Moores Hill City Attorney John Watson were not returned.

A week ago, despite truck drivers’ protests, Warner Robins, GA, voted to ban trucks from parking on vacant lots for more than two hours unless the drivers receive special permission from the property owners of the lots in the community.
