House panel launches tour to discuss transportation plan
BECKLEY, W.Va. — Congressman Nick Rahall wants West Virginians to chime in on what they believe are the state's transportation challenges.
The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is holding its first public hearing on a multistate information-gathering tour on Monday morning at Tamarack in Beckley.
A dozen other stops are planned nationwide. The committee then will draft a long-term bill for highway, transit and rail programs to replace one that expired in September 2009 and has had temporary extensions.
Although the event is open to the public, testimony is being limited to previously invited witnesses. But the public can submit written testimony.
Rahall is the ranking Democrat of the committee.
