Fuel price average rebounds to $3.95

After a decrease of 15 cents during the past five weeks, the national average price for diesel fuel rebounded nearly 1 and-a-half cents to $3.954 per gallon.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says fuel prices increased in seven of its nine regions, while prices were still declining in the Rocky Mountain and New England regions.

The EIA reports that the average for the week ending Monday, June 13, was more than $1.02 above where it was a year ago. Fuel in California this past week was nearly $1.18 higher than the average one year ago.

Following are the EIA’s regional averages for the week:

U.S. – $3.954, up 1.4 cents
East Coast – $3.968, up 1.3 cents
New England – $4.087, down 1.8 cents
Central Atlantic – $4.088, up 1.4 cents
Lower Atlantic – $3.905, up 1.4 cents
Midwest – $3.905, up 1.6 cents
Gulf Coast – $3.896, up 1.9 cents
Rocky Mountain – $3.988, down 2.7 cents
West Coast – $4.163, up 1.7 cents
California – $4.245, up 2.2 cents

ProMiles reported the diesel average at $3.976 on Monday, up four-tenths of a cent overnight. Connecticut had the highest average this week at $4.351, taxes included, followed by Washington state at $4.335.

South Carolina had the lowest average at $3.771 per gallon, followed by Oklahoma at $3.789.

And in oil news, futures for light sweet crude were trading at $97.16 per barrel at midday Monday on the New York Mercantile Exchange. That was down about $2.13 overnight.
