Freightliner says that by April 23 it hopes to have notified the owners of nearly 9,000 trucks that their vehicles may have a potentially dangerous flaw.

The problem is that the left-hand, inner tie-rod can loosen and separate from the steering rack, potentially leading to loss of control.

OOIDA Member Virgil Brown reports an incident he experienced with his co-driver in their 2010 Cascadia. When they heard a rattling noise, they pulled over and discovered a loose bolt and nuts on the tie-rod assembly.

Brown says Freightliner sent a service truck to check.

“The service guy told me, ‘If you drove 10-15 more miles, you would have lost your steering. You could have crossed the road, hit another car, you know flipped, whatever,’ ” Brown told Land Line Now.

The Freightliner recall affects some Cascadias, Centuries and Columbias built within the last three to five years.
