Freightliner leads in WardsAuto tally, but all OEMs down 39.8% from 2015

Class 8 truck sales posted by major truck manufacturers decreased 39.8 percent in July from the same month last year, according to an August 11 WardsAuto report. At 14,085, the July total dropped 23.3 percent from June 2016.

Freightliner again led in sales with 4,912, down 46.1 percent from last year. Kenworth placed second with sales of 2,333, a 32.9 percent decrease from 2015. Next was Peterbilt, with 2,236, down 27.3 percent; Volvo, 1,562, down 41.2 percent; Mack, 1370, down 21.6 percent; International, 1,276, down 56.7 percent; and Western Star, which actually posted a gain with 385 units sold, up 8.5 percent from 2015.

Freightliner also leads in year-to-date sales, with 46,971, down 14.6 percent from last year; followed by Kenworth, 17,015, down 21.1 percent; Peterbilt, 15,868, down 18.1 percent; International, 12,922, down 29.8 percent; Volvo, 12,071, down 33.9 percent; Mack, 10,348, down 7.7 percent; and Western Star, 2,983, a gain of 9.5 percent.
