FMCSA’s Ferro addresses time wasted at loading docks
The head of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration went to bat for truckers recently when she spoke to shippers at a meeting near Washington, DC.
Anne Ferro told members of the National Industrial Transportation League that a recurring complaint heard during the FMCSA’s public hearings on hours-of-service was valuable time being wasted at loading docks.
“Downtime,†Ferro said, “was a constant refrain, a constant complaint.â€
And she said truckers are under increased financial and mental stress when their legal driving hours are eaten up at the dock.
Ferro asked the shippers to take responsibility for motor carrier safety by addressing the problem of lengthy delays.
