October 10, 2012, Jamaican native, 39-year-old, Gary Clarke was anticipating an overnight visit with his brother, Andrew Jackson, after he delivered a load in Chicago.   The brothers had not seen each other since February.   As he parked his expediter truck in the violent Englewood area of Chicago’s South Side next to his brother’s house, a group of people approached him and told Clarke to give them his money.   When Clarke responded that he had no money, shots were fired and the group fled.

Jackson, who was outside during the attack, heard his brother say something about Jesus and knew his brother was in trouble.   He called authorities who found Clarke in his truck with a gunshot to the hip.   Clarke was taken to the hospital where he subsequently died.

The brothers had immigrated to the USA from Jamaica with Clarke eventually moving to Canada where he was a chef for a while.   Then he decided to give in to his love of driving and became an expediter truck driver for Canadian based company, Aberstar Fast Freight.   His dream was for all of his family to move to Canada and be together.

Besides his brother in Englewood, Clarke leaves behind his wife and two-year-old son in Canada and a 17-year-old daughter still living with other family in Jamaica.
