Diesel stops upward trend, falls just less than a penny to $2.951
WASHINGTON — The weekly retail on-highway diesel price U.S. average dropped 0.9 cents this week to $2.951 per gallon, after two weeks of 1-cent-plus increases, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
The New England region (0.7 cents) and the West Coast (0.1 cents) were the only two areas that had an increase in average price this week.
California, which is not part of a region and is typically more costly, kept to that standard this week topping the averages at $3.139 per gallon, up 1.1 cents from last week. The next closest average on the high end was the West Coast at $3.121 per gallon, just 0.1 cents from last week.
The least expensive diesel could be found in the Gulf Coast where the average was $2.883 per gallon, which was down 0.7 cents a gallon.
The U.S. average price was 35 cents higher than this time last year.
