Diesel prices increase for 13th week

Diesel prices have increased for the 13th week in a row, and Monday’s increase is not going to ease anyone’s concerns. In fact, diesel jumped another 14 cents to $3.716 a gallon for the week ending Monday, Feb. 28, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

The EIA reported solid increases of 13 cents or more throughout each of its nine regions, with West Coast states seeing increases of more than 16 cents. California is seeing $4-plus diesel right now in places, as the statewide average is at $3.964.

It was the first week of October last year when the national average hit $3 and hasn’t looked back. The last decrease in the weekly average was by a penny in mid-November, but it’s been all uphill since then.

ProMiles reported Monday’s average at $3.736, an increase of 2 and-a-half cents overnight.

New England – $3.903, up 13.4 cents
Central Atlantic – $3.875, up 14.1 cents
Lower Atlantic – $3.703, up 14.6 cents
Midwest – $3.661, up 14.4 cents
Gulf Coast – $3.656, up 13.4 cents
Rocky Mountain – $3.698, up 13.0 cents
West Coast – $3.892, up 16.3 cents
California – $3.964, up 16.5 cents

In related energy news, chaos in the Middle East continue to keep oil prices up near $100 a barrel.

According to the New York Mercantile Exchange, next month’s futures for light sweet crude were trading around $97 a barrel early Monday afternoon, while December futures were right around $101 per barrel.
