Diesel drops below $4

The national average price of diesel registered below the $4 mark this past week for the first time since mid-August, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. At $3.98 per gallon, diesel prices are seven-tenths a cent lower than the same week last year.

The New England region reported the highest prices at $4.198, while the Midwest came in the lowest at 3.908 for the week ending Nov. 12.

The price of diesel as reported by EIA for each region is as follows:

U.S. – $3.980, down 3 cents East Coast – $4.037, up three-tenths cent New England – $4.198, down 1.3 cents Central Atlantic – $4.165, up 1 cent Lower Atlantic – $3.912, up two-tenths cent Midwest – $3.908, down 5.1 cents Gulf Coast – $3.875, down 4.5 cents Rocky Mountain – $4.104, down 5.6 cents West Coast – $4.131, down 2.2 cents West Coast less California – $4.098, up 3 cents California – $4.160, down 6.5 cents
ProMiles, which surveys diesel prices daily at 9,400 truck stops, reported diesel prices at $3.989 on Monday, six-tenths a cent below Sunday. Connecticut prices were the highest at $4.471 and Oklahoma the lowest at $3.764, a spread of 70.7 cents.

In separate energy news, midday trading in New York showed light sweet crude oil prices at $85.29, a drop of 28 cents over Friday and 46 cents below this past Monday. Light sweet crude is the type most commonly associated with diesel production.
