Diesel average at new low at $2.211 a gallon
Diesel prices are now hovering above the $2-a-gallon mark, ringing up at $2.211 Monday for the on-highway average, according to the U.S. Energy Department's Energy Information Administration (EIA).
The average was $2.235 last week.
Today's price was the lowest it's been since March 23, 2009, when it was $2.166.
The surprise was that one of EIA's 10 diesel reporting regions experienced an uptick: The West Coast Less California sector price was down 1.1 cents to $2.303 a gallon, up from $2.292 the week prior.
California has the highest diesel, $5.595, while the West Coast has the second-highest at $2.464.
Nowhere is diesel selling for $3 a gallon, but it wasn't that long ago that truckers were waiting for prices to go below the $4-a-gallon mark.
As for the on-highway average, prices are 92.6 cents below what they were at this time last year.

EIA predicts that Brent Crude will average $55.78 this year and that diesel will sell for between $2.50 and $3 a gallon for 2016.
