WASHINGTON — Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is voluntarily recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Freightliner Cascadia trucks, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall notice. The vehicles, manufactured from March 24, 2014 through November 9, 2015, are equipped with Bergstrom Parksmart HVAC auxiliary units. The units may overheat causing a fire risk due to inadequate contact between the electrical connector on the compressor and electrical pins, resulting in a high electrical resistance, NHTSA said.

The recall is expected to begin May 7. Daimler Trucks will notify owners and dealers will replace the connector caps. In addition, NHTSA reported, dealers will replace the harnesses if there is evidence of heat discoloration. The repairs will be performed free of charge.

Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-745-8000 or the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or go to safercar.com. The DTNA recall number is FL-703.
