Coalition promotes NAFTA superhighway
A NAFTA superhighway linking Mexico, the U.S. and Canada is still just a theory, but members of a coalition held a three-day conference this week in Des Moines, IA, to promote the concept.
A group called North America’s SuperCorridor Coalition drew about 200 people from the three countries during its annual conference that ended Thursday, June 17. Topics included promoting Interstate 35 as the central trunk of a possible international trade corridor that would also include I-29 and I-94.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood was among the guest speakers at the conference.
The coalition, according to its website, is “devoted to uniting public and private sectors to address critical national and international trade, transportation, security and environmental issues.â€
The coalition consists of economic development groups; city and county officials; chambers of commerce; logistics and shipping companies; and planners along the talked-about route.
