The American Truck Dealers (ATD) reports that included in the U.S. House of Representatives' $325 billion multiyear transportation bill is a provision requiring an analysis of current insurance minimums and how any changes would impact safety, the industry and consumers before any rulemakings could be made.

ATD joined in an effort with the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association to support a provision in the House bill which requires the Department of Transportation to conduct the analysis of current minimum limits and the impact of any changes "before proceeding to increase minimum financial responsibility limits by rulemaking."

ATD signed a support letter that was sent to the leadership of the House Rules Committee prior to debate of the bill.

Two amendments offered by Congresswoman Lois Frankel, D-Fla., and Congressman Hank Johnson, D-Ga., to strike the language pertaining to the insurance provisions failed by a voice vote.
