WASHINGTON — The American Trucking Associations spent $291,597 in the first quarter to lobby the federal government on pension reform legislation and other issues.

That's down from the $361,513 it spent in the year-ago period and the $298,818 it spent in the fourth quarter of 2010.

The trade group also lobbied the federal government on legislation involving air quality, shipment of hazardous materials and diesel engine issues, according to the disclosure report filed in April.

In the January-to-March period, the group lobbied Congress, the Department of Transportation, the Small Business Administration, the Department of Labor and the Department of Homeland Security, according to the report filed with the House clerk's office.

ATA members include FedEx Corp., UPS Inc., Werner Enterprises Inc. and YRC Worldwide Inc.

Lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches, under a federal law enacted in 1995.
