It's a Team's Life
YES
In the past few weeks I was interviewed by Dorothy Cox,
writer for The Trucker talking about community involvement and the power of
yes.
My interests are varied and over the years I have gained
more interests because I said "Yes" when asked if I wanted to do
something or help with something.
My
experiences from saying yes go from driving a NASCAR at over 100+ MPH in Las
Vegas to sitting on a few trucking industry boards.
My theory is that I am going to live this life once and I am going to enjoy every minute of it. As long as I am able I will continue to enjoy Roller Coasters, small airplanes, and all that I can be involved with in the trucking industry. All of these activities are enjoyed.
The feeling of satisfaction and enjoyment I get when the sun
is coming up in the morning on a beautiful day and I able to witness it and at
the same time driving a vehicle I enjoy has not been surpassed.
Many and most of these things I could have said "NO" to as they intimidated me. It took me forever to learn to drive and I was afraid of on coming traffic. Roller Coasters where never my favorite as I did not like the huge drops and now I cannot wait for that free fall with my hands waving around in the air.
It took me years to get over being a wallflower and to bashful to talk in a group of people, heck for that matter to even join a group of people, as I was always a loner. Over time I realized I was the one losing out by not saying "YES" I want to get involved or experience something new.
When Bob started talking about driving a truck for a living my initial thoughts were "Have you lost your mind?" with an open mind I attended a truck in Las Vegas and met some really nice couples. So I was ready to give it a try and then I let fear over take me and I was willing to ride but not drive T/T through the likes of Boston. I was very afraid of traffic.
Then we started researching Expediting and straight trucks and the more I learned the more I realized that I could do this if I set my mind to it. I could handle T/T on back roads so why in the world could I not handle a straight truck? To cement the decision we bought our first straight truck and I learned to drive it on the way to Orientation. It was love from the first and while I had obstacles to overcome such as backing I learned as quickly as I could. I still get a little proud of myself when I handle a large city and traffic.
The small word yes has enabled me to enjoy many things and I
am still alive to talk about it so all is good.
In time age will catch up and I will have to say "NO" to
certain things but as of yet I still like saying Yes to new adventures and
opportunities.
