Worlds Largest Catsup Bottle!
The Catsup Bottle water tower is relatively close to Truck Centers Freightliner Troy, IL and we took the time to drive by the water tower and marvel at the site.
The water tower was completed in 1949 and supplied water to the “Brooks Old Original Tandy Catsup†factory with water. After the plant closed the water tower became an eyesore, as no one wanted the cost to maintain the structure.
The company tried to give the water tower to the city and the city declined the gift. The tower was scheduled to be tore down when “The Preservation Group†started a paint it campaign and the Catsup bottle became a city landmark.
We dropped the Expedite Services Truck off to have the QualComm installed and we decided to take a little detour on the way home and stopped to see the water tower. It was relatively easy to find as we came around a bend in the road and there it was! I do wish the city would create a pull off so that visitors could safely pull off of the road way and snap our pictures. We turned onto a side road out of the way of traffic to get a great view.
It is huge and was fun to see. The Preservation Group has a web page and also many happenings throughout the year to raise money to maintain the Catsup Bottle.
