Wishing for a Freightliner!

When we first saw the RV all we saw was the convenience of having a microwave, refrigerator and beds.   The RV looked nice, and it looked like it would do the job we were asking it to do with no problem… That thought changed quickly.

Within 24-hours we were wishing for our Cascadia!   The RV was not meant to do what we had in mind and it quickly became apparent that we were going to have a rough trip.

The RV rode like a tank and felt very unsteady on the road and we were always on back roads, no interstates for us.   The first problem was trying to sleep in a vehicle that wobbled and felt every bump in the road.   We knew when exhaustion hit we would sleep, but we would pay the price before we got to that point.

I was not scheduled to drive the RV, but at one point I filled in for another crewmember that was struggling getting sleep.   The portion of the course I drove was very narrow and had lots of tight turns.   As a driver in a team truck I know the importance of driving as gently as possible so the better half can sleep.   I found driving the RV so everyone can sleep almost impossible as the brakes and throttle were soft.  The RV was underpowered and did not want to pull the hills and going down hills the RV did not want to go slow.   I was glad to get out of this vehicle, as it was such a frustrating experience.

Due to the horrible rider we all found it hard to sleep.   The RV weaved from side to side and we felt every bump in the road.   Next came the RATTLES and every thing rattled in the RV and RATTLES drive me nuts…   The whole vehicle creaked and groaned going down the road, which did not help any of us, sleep.   To add insult to injury the ONAN generator was to small for the unit and the unit would over heat and we did not have air conditioning while going through the desert.   Trying to sleep in this sweatbox, not being able to make coffee, and the guys not being able to get a hot meal was tough.

When we flew back to San Diego and I saw the Cascadia “Incognito” sitting there I almost wept for joy.   I was thankful to be back in a vehicle meant to travel down the road in comfort and in style!
