Where has our truck been?

I am looking back over my pictures I have taken this year and smile at all of the fun things we have been able to attend.

We met friends of ours at a KOA in San Diego, CA for an evening of grilling and sitting around a campfire reminiscing.   We both had loads that picked up early in the morning in San Diego. We were able to spend the 4th of July weekend in Casper, WY visiting friends we had not seen in several years.   While in Casper we were able to learn about geo caching and also able to attend car races and watch the local fireworks show.

We spent Halloween with my best friend in Sierra Vista, AZ with her family.   We carved a few pumpkins and had fun cooking up some interesting spooky treats.   We stopped  for a weekend to see Bob’s mom and stepdad in Yuma, AZ where they spend the winter.   While in Kansas we spent some time at a friend’s house who is a professional quilter and were able to pick some of her fresh cherries.

While on the road we met several of our friends for a quick meal.   Through Facebook we have been able to keep track of where our friends are and when we will have the ability to stop and share a meal.   This year we were able to meet up with the couple who helped us get our start with FedEx Custom Critical. They spent several hours with us in a TA Truck Stop going over the do’s and the do not’s about the  intricacies of hauling freight and interacting with FedEx dispatchers.

We have been able to tour a gold mine in North Carolina, try our hand at driving a race car in Las Vegas,   attend a car race in Wichita, KS,   tour the USS Alabama in Mobile,   and eat Lobster in Reno at one of the casinos.

While our truck provides us with a good living it is also the source of many fun spent days on the road.   Many if not all of the event listed above would not have come about if it was not for the truck.   With that being said we also missed out on many events while we were on the road.   We do not attend birthday parties, we do not around for most special holiday events and we are not there when someone needs us to sit beside them and listen.

We get to see a lot of awesome things on the road and we miss out on a lot of events while being truck drivers and away from home as much as we are.

2010 was a very special year for us and I cannot even imagine what 2011 will be like.   We are sure looking forward to another year on the road though.
