It's a Team's Life

What to Expect

We really thought we knew exactly what we were getting into since we had been with a big truckload carrier.  We knew what shower lines were like, we knew how hard it was to find parking, we knew driving when the weather turns bad, and we knew what it was like to try and get home.

When we first came up with this brilliant idea of leaving our nine to five jobs, we had a few concerns. One of the biggest was how did we really like each other? Once you get into the truck there really is not much room or time to getaway from each other. Many times it felt as if we were on a six foot leash tethered to each other and it really was not such a bad thing. I  found that I would go weeks at a time where I basically only talked to Bob in person and a few people on the phone. The longest we were apart was when Bob would go into a shipper or receiver's office or he was on a dock. It was funny how fast we adjusted to this way of life.

When we decided to buy our truck, start team driving, and become expediters is when our lives really changed! Expediting is a very different world in many ways from truckload carriers. I will never forget when we left orientation. Bob turned to me and said "I really doubt if you will drive much." Wow, famous last words! Now have our driving shifts and we have different people we talk to. We have found to our amazement that we have to make time for each other now in our little truck as we both have so much going on. We are both involved in several truck related projects that we get wrapped up in and our days fly by. We are still in a very small area 24/7, but we not have that tethered feeling anymore as team drivers and we have found we still like each other and will have our 32nd anniversary next month.
