We found winter!

Heading into Montana and Idaho this time of year we figured we would find the snow and I was able to.

All the way across from Wisconsin the road had been good, but the wind was blowing somewhat.   Then we made it to Montana and it was my turn to drive.   Road started out clear and nice then I headed south on the two lane roads and that is where it got interesting.

I started driving at 2:00 am local time so I had a lot of night driving on the snow and with the snow coming down pretty hard in places.   I knew I would have a steady climb as many years ago we had delivered to a ski resort on the same road.   I also was looking forward to cutting across the corner of Yellowstone, as it is beautiful even with it snowing and dark.

This road has a lot of pull-offs for slower moving vehicles and at this time of the morning I only needed to use them twice.   What I like at this time of the morning is the lack of vehicles and able to drive my speed without worrying about getting out of the way for other motorists.

At times I was down to 25 mph and then once in awhile I was up to 45 mph for about 200 miles.   As I got into the corner of Yellowstone there was a bison and her baby I was able to see clearly.   What a site on a cold wintery night to see.   I drove through a meadow where on a previous time Bob woke me up to see a HUGE herd of Elk laying on the ground.   It was amazing to see all of their antlers in the moonlight and not a single one of them standing up.

Bob woke up once to poke his head out of the sleeper and take a picture then he went back to bed to sleep peacefully till we made it to Idaho.   When it became his turn to drive he had wet roads and not snow!
