We first contacted Onspot six years ago to get automatic chains installed on our M2 and were disheartened to learn that the chains would not work with our configuration.

Now six years later here we are.   Before we hauled our first load we contacted Onspot and set up an appointment.   We arrived at the North Vernon, IN manufacturing plant so the engineers could look and measure our set up.   At this time we were told nope if we installed the chains they would not work correctly.

After a few weeks Onspot contacted us again to say they believe they have the problem solved and if near would we mind trying again.   We knew that when they thought they had solved the problem they were pretty sure of themselves.   We have been able to make it by the plant and have our chains installed.

We will be working with Onspot to make sure all of the modifications will work with our wide base singles as well as the brake chambers.   There were all kinds of pictures, measurements, and small tweaking’s done before the truck came out of the shop and did a test run.

Bob was asked to drive the truck forward on gravel and deploy the chains, then stop and back up with the chains deployed and finally to push the switch and remove the chains. Danny showed Bob how the chains were leaving a perfect foot print in the gravel and how to test the chains in the future to make sure they were throwing the chains accurately.

We will leave the chains on till after the Expedite Expo taking pictures of them to send into Onspot to show how they are handling the rigors of the road.   While we have the chains we consider them a form of insurance and hope this coming winter we do not need to deploy them.

This winter if we get into an area and the sign is flashing chain up area ahead we will smile as we hit the button and deploy our chains instead of the dread of getting out in the weather and getting covered in snow which always seems to happen in the middle of the night.
