Truck Stop Etiquette

When pulling into a truck stop and purchasing fuel pull into the fuel island and shut the truck off.

The hose and water are not there to wash your truck

The windshield cleaner is to clean windshields and lights

When walking into the building walk far enough in front of the trucks that the driver can be seen.   When walking to close to the front of a truck it is easy to become invisible.

When finished fueling pull the truck forward; go in and get the fuel ticket and if needed use the restroom

Do not pull your truck forward and take a shower or order a meal (yes this happens)

When carousing through the parking area watch for trucks backing…

When backing in a truck stop first look carefully and turn on your 4-ways and then carefully back into a parking spot.

At night when we see a truck backing we turn off our lights so as not to blind the backing driver.

If I have to go into the truck stop by myself (Linda) I do not walk between the trailers I stay on the road way and walk around to the building.   This is a safety issue and it is also a nice walk.

We also try to park in a well-lit area.

I also always carry my phone with me.

A good resource about staying safe on the road is a book written by fellow women driver Sandy Long; Street Smarts A Guide to a Truck Driver’s Personal Safety. This informational book can be found on Amazon
