Sleep like a rock!

I used to be a very light sleeper until we got in the truck.    When the girls were babies any little squeak they made and I was up checking on them and that was before the days of monitors.   If the dog moved I was awake checking to make sure everything was all right.   If it started raining, snowing, or the wind started howling I was awake.   When the sun started peaking out in the morning I was awake ready to go.

Now I believe I can sleep through just about anything with two exceptions, one is talking and the other is cars driving by.   When someone walks by our truck talking I am immediately awake or if we park near a traveled road and cars zip by the truck.   I have learned to sleep through the alarm that goes off right before a refrigerated unit on a trailer parked beside us starts.   I can sleep through trucks backing in beside us with their backup alarms going off and then setting their brakes.   I have even learned to sleep through Bob crawling over the top of me to get into bed.

In the winter and the heat of summer we use window shades to cover up the windows in the sleeper to retain heat or to keep the heat out.   Over the top of the shade I have curtains and then I have our vinyl window covers.   We have heavy vinyl curtains between the sleeper and the cab of the truck that shuts out all light.   The sleeper is in total darkness which helps to promote deep sleep which we often need to get our rest.   Neither Bob nor I have ever been able to take naps and it is very difficult to go to sleep when the sun is still up.   Bob can sleep through the sun coming up, but I still am awake as soon as the sun starts peeking out.

In some ways I find it disconcerting that I can sleep so deeply and in other ways I know it is actually self preservation as I need my sleep in order to be able to drive ten to eleven hours.
