One detail I have failed to mention in our journey is the fact that we delivered a load on Monday morning of show week in El Paso, TX.   We next drove to the TA in Dallas to get the truck washed and as it turned out to watch the rain Tuesday morning.

We spent Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday polishing on the truck.   Once inside the convention center and parked Bob lined up our tires perfectly and we did our last rub down of the exterior and interior.   We attended the drivers meeting and learned that rags down would be Thursday morning at 8:30 and many crews would be working all night.   We though were done and ready to head to our hotel.

Thursday we watched and waited as the first set of judges came around to judge the interior.   Neil the head judge looked at the passenger side of the truck and stuck his fingers into the vent for the feet and found dust…   He turned to me and I quickly said, “I did not enter the cab I entered the sleeper…” Neil in his gravely voice said “Linda, the truck is a total picture and we look over the cab and the sleeper”.   I had wiped down the front of the cab, but had not used Q-tips like I had in the back.   The judges were really great as they explained what they were looking for and next time we entered the truck in a truck show how to be prepared.   All of the judges also judged us and I am happy to say we scored perfect on all of their judging sheets.

Next the exterior judges came around and that was really something.   Bob got caught when they opened the hood and he had not oiled down all of the rubber hoses.   He also had the comment we did not enter the motor and once again we heard total picture.   The judges were very impressed with how perfect he had aligned the tires.   I think all of them would have been shocked if they had known we had just hauled a load with the truck!

The awards ceremony was on Saturday morning and we attended the awards ceremony.   As we listened they announced 2010 and newer working bobtail class and they called up third place, then second place, and then we heard our number and our names.   We sat there looking at the huge screen and a picture of our truck unable to move!   We were in shock before we finally got up to gather in our 1st place trophy.   We also won aftermarket sleeper and one of the great door prizes.

We were thrilled with our first show experience and then to win those trophies was the icing on the cake.   While we felt like stuck out like sore thumb we must have done a lot right as we had some tough competition.   Will we enter a show again? Probably as we really had that much fun and met some really neat people.
