Preparing for winter!

The truck feels over loaded and crowded this time of year.   There are jackets, sweaters, winter coats, gloves, and stocking caps which all have to find a cabinet to fit in.   Molly also has her winter gear consisting of a sweater and a slightly heavier coat.   Molly has the same problem that we do, in the morning we can be in sunny Florida and by the next morning we can be in snow up to our steps in a northern state.

The truck will be packed with a few extra blankets that I store flat under the mattress until needed.   There is also winter and summer clothing in the truck, but mostly long sleeve shirts and slacks.   Shoes also have to be swapped out and the heavier winter shoes added to the storage under the bed.   The pantry in the truck also will be restocked with items to make chile, stew, or soup on a cold day.   Chile is one of my favorites and it the sky starts looking like it might get cold I start fixin’ chile in the rice cooker.

Our coats drive me nuts in the winter as I have not figured out a good place to store them out of sight.   We have hooks in our truck which they hang on in the winter and I have not figured out how to convince me that they could be considered a wall decoration.   When they are wet it is even a bigger pain as they drip.   We usually hang them over the steering wheel as they can drip on the floor boards and that is easy to wipe up.

Another chore of winter will be keeping the floors in the truck clean.   We have shoe brushes on our steps which helps, but no matter what mud comes into the truck.   In the summer it is easy to open the doors of the truck and stand outside to clean the floors in the cab of the truck winter can make this a little more difficult.

Bob takes care of getting the truck ready for winter and one of the items he adds to our truck each year is slush busters.   These are inexpensive plastic strips applied to the windshield.   The wipers run over these strips and these know the ice buildup off the wipers.   We no longer have to get out and pop the wipers to remove ice buildup.   Being short and popping windshield wipers on slippery ground never worked very well.
