Permits and Lease

When we enter government weight stations we cross a scale and we are either told to return to the roadway or we are told to pull around back.   We are then most often told to being in our paperwork that consists of our permits and lease.

We use these clear plastic document holders to keep everything we need clean and in order.   The clear holders make it easy to see each document and as an added precaution I labeled each pouch with what it contains. We are usually asked to show our insurance and our IFTA paperwork and sometimes when hauling Hazmat those documents.   We are also required to provide a copy of our lease if asked for it by a DOT official.

Many of the permits are updated each year and it is easy to find the old document and replace it with the new document.   We carry our permit book in the pouch of our door within easy reach.   When going into Arizona or New Mexico the DOT official is often at a window asking to see our insurance and our IFTA documents and it is easy to show these and not have to pull over and bring in the paperwork.

We purchased our Notebook/Permit book before we picked up our first truck and it has been with us ever since.   The book is rugged, waterproof, holds all of our documents easily, and is the perfect size to fit in our door pouch.   Having all of our pertinent documents in a neat and orderly fashion, easy to find keeps us from searching frantically for the proper document and taking the chance of getting a fine or possibly shut down till we do find what we need. Every truck has these documents and even if we were only the drivers of a truck I would still create this notebook.
