While Bob and I are not members of NASTC, Women in Trucking is and WIT sponsors one female driver each year and this year I was chosen.   The event is held at the downtown Sheraton and starts on a Thursday and wraps up on Saturday afternoon.   During the conference there are several workshops geared to the small trucking company owners that appeared to be very in-depth.

NASTC picks twelve drivers of the year and this year there were two women drivers.   We were wined and dined, taken to a show at the Grand Old Opry, had pictures taken with John Ratzenburg, and also with Tim Wilson.   We received numerous gifts from the many vendors and also had a few special events just for the Drivers of the Year.   My favorite "event" was by Bill Hunter who is a Magician and does card tricks.   What was amazing about Bill is that he is over 90 years old and he was great.   I know the look of awe on my face over some of his tricks had to have been hilarious.  I really do believe Bill is magical.

We have dealt with some of the staff of NASTC as well as had the President of NASTC David Owen on a few of our Trucking Solution Group calls.   This was the first time we have met them in person and been able to thank them for all they are doing in the trucking industry.   David has hired a great positive group of people and we enjoyed working with all of them.   One poor guy, and I did not get his name, job was to get all twelve of the drivers of the year from event to event, lined up, doing interviews, getting pictures taken and I compared his job to herding cats!   He never quit smiling while he was hustling us along and getting all of us where we needed to be.

I was able to talk to many of the other drivers and what a story they have with many of them driving over four million safe miles.   They were all positive drivers who have great insight on what it takes to drive that many safe miles.   My miles are nowhere near theirs so I did a lot of listening and learning,

Thanks to Women in Trucking for recognizing me and submitting my name.   Women in Trucking have been another great networking opportunity for me to meet other women drivers and to be able to learn from them.
