MOM Jail might be in your future

Let me tell you that sentence got my attention "Mom, you might be going to jail" on the screen of my phone.   After my initial shock I was glad that my daughter was checking the mail for me as I might have learned this tidbit of information a different way.

Being gone from the house and mail for months at a time can come with consequences if there is not a plan in place.   My budget book is full of dates of when bills are due along with the amounts.   I pay invoices online and for those that I cannot I use our banks bill pay system.

Unexpected things can happen such as JURY DUTY...   Now that one is a gotcha if there is not a plan in place for someone to pickup and read the mail.   The letter came while our daughter was out of town and when she opened up the envelope I was to appear in the courtroom in a week’s time.   Nicki called the courthouse and explained the situation and was promptly told, "Your mother can show up for jury duty or go to jail" and then added I will have someone call her.

Luckily this turned out well and I was able to send a letter to the judge explaining our team trucking business and what a hardship it would impose on our income.   The judge not only excused me from jury duty for this trial but for the rest of this session.   What a relief.

I know that full time RVers use a mail service and I have heard of mail services available to truckers.   Some I know will forward mail to you when asked that will only include what you want, others will scan all of your mail and send the documents to you electronically.   All of this comes with a fee, but my thoughts are the fee is probably pretty cheap if it would keep me from being arrested.

A couple we know use this service and they are very happy with this program.    Their mail is scanned and sent to them.

Will you know if you are called to jury duty?
