Molly is getting old

We made it six miles and the motor shut off.   Long story short we lost the load and the truck had to be towed to the CAT shop.   I walked back to the house to get our pickup so we could gather up our belonging out of the truck.   Molly got sick that evening and then got sick again in the morning.   Molly NEVER gets sick so we rushed her to the veterinarian.   The vet’s office did blood work and we were in for a nasty surprise.   Molly has started into kidney failure.   Molly will be 15 in November and we realize she is an old dog but still…   Molly has to give up her Milk Bones and her chicken jerky she would get before going to bed.   She also can only have limited carrots and tomatoes and no more asparagus or cashews.   We have never given her many table scraps so that is not a huge hard ship for her.   She is now on a new dog food that is low protein and has low protein dog treats.   She still cannot understand why when she gives us very direct hints we will not give her the chicken jerky before going to bed.   I know she has to think we are idiots to not get what she is trying to tell us.

Molly is on antibiotics for a few weeks and next time we are home we will have more blood work run to see how she is doing.   Right now we wonder if she had been feeling bad for awhile as she now will break into a slow trot when heading over to the grass.   She also seems as if she is staying awake a little longer.   We will keep a close eye on her health as one of the side problems with kidney failure is she can become anemic.   Here on the road she is constantly exposed to everything and anything.

She has been my constant companion for many years and it is hard to imagine her not here with us.   When the girls were growing up she attended track meets, baseball games, horse shows, dog shows, the county fair and everywhere else dogs were welcome.   She has always had very good manners and likes people!   We will enjoy her and spoil her as much as possible in the coming months and I hope years she has left.
