Mac Crash

I was multi tasking which is something I normally do.   We were sitting waiting to  pickup our next load and I was on a conference call.   While on the call I had my computer open to take notes and decided that since we were sitting still it was time to work on my fingernails.

I got down one of my plastic cases with my fingernail polish, my polish remover, cotton balls, and other paraphernalia associated with fingernails.   I opened up the fingernail polish and reached for a cotton ball and it happened….   I hit the open bottle with my arm and about two tablespoons of liquid spilled on the keyboard of my computer.

The computer immediately made a funny sizzle and shut down and I let out such an audible gasp Bob came back to see what was wrong.   Lucky I was on mute with my conference call as I was in no shape to explain to the group what had just happened.   In the next few hours I used a fan on the computer, removed the back of the computer and used the fan there.   I was able to start the computer and get another backup, which made me feel better.   Then I realized the keys were acting odd and I shut it back down again for what turned out to be the last time.

Luckily we have a great and understanding friend who works for Apple and he reassured me that my life was not over and there were options.   He has had to do this twice once when I deleted all of my contacts on my I-Phone and now this.   He is a gem.   He told me about a place called iResQ and I gave them a call.

iResQ repairs Mac products and they are amazing.   I paid for the shipping to have the computer returned to me and they would diagnose my computer for free and let me know their findings.   I shipped the computer to them while we were in South Carolina and their guarantee is that within 24 hours of receiving the computer they will call you with their findings.   First Burt called to say he thought replacing the keyboard would take care of the initial problem but he could not guarantee how long the computer would last as there was signs of liquid.   This cost was $200.00 so I immediately said “fix it!”   He called again about an hour later and said my logic board was ruined and that was $500.00.   I knew I could get a new Mac for $1100.00 that did not have fingernail polish remover damage and I told Burt what were my options if I went with a new computer?

Burt suggested he put my hard drive in a sleeve that would act like an external hard drive and I could restore my new computer with the old hard drive.   He went on to reassure me that it would be easy as I was setting up my new computer it would ask me if I wanted to restore from another hard drive and I would just say yes and walk away for few hours.   He also went on to give me his extension and to give him a call if I needed help.    I have always been a windows person and this sounded way to easy.   Well Burt was right it restored everything including my programs. Within two hours of starting my new Mac I had my programs and I was back at work.

The cost to iResQ $39.00 and I am still in shock.   They fix all Apple products and all while I hope I never have to use them again if anything goes wrong they will be the first people I call.
